The Lore of Ransera
There is no right or wrong way to delve into the lore provided in this wikipedia. Below is a list of helpful links that have been compiled for your convenience.
Play by Post Collaborative Storytelling
Ransera is a play-by-post open ended writing website. The basic idea is that you make a character by drafting a character sheet (CS) and once completed, take up writing in one of our numerous locations! The story is in your hands. Ransera is designed to be a setting in which you, the writer, can tell your own stories. We have provided the tools with which to tell those stories but they are ultimately in your hands. The collaboration aspect comes in joining in with and collaborating with other players and even the moderators of the website.
The bottom line is that your adventure is what you make of it. Be a proud warrior. Be an inquisitive mage or be a baker running the local bakery in a city. The choice is yours and we empower you with the tools to make those choices as you see fit.
Fantasy Genre
Ransera is an original high fantasy world with steampunk influence. While some of our material borrows from traditional fantasy tropes inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien, we are proud of the depiction that is provided here in our setting. While there are play-by-post websites that strive for 100% original content, Ransera makes an effort to blend traditional fantasy with innovative ideas. There is nothing wrong with playing in a world that holds true to fantasy tropes both traditional and original and we encourage this.
Storyline
There is no single storyline in Ransera. While the world does have a deep history, with the cities and kingdoms having even more detailed timelines and events to draw inspiration from, the story is in the hands of the players. Ransera is an open ended world filled with magic, dragons, gods and story bits for anyone and everyone to pick up and follow as they see fit.
As a world, Ransera exists on the Material Plane of Acillon. It orbits a single yellow sun and has two moons. The continent in which the stories of this play-by-post website take place is also referred to as Ransera. It is divided into four distinct regions. Roughly three hundred years ago a terrible event known as the Sundering of the World destroyed much of what people knew. The world that has now taken its place is changed. For better or worse? That is for you to decide.
Karnor. Known as the Pridelands for the unwavering spirit of the people that inhabit it. Home to a multitude of city-states that are collectively referred to as the Free Cities of the North. Karnor is a harsh environment that breeds very cynical albeit pragmatic and stalwart people.
Turoth. Known as the Shroudlands due to the otherworldly nature of much of the landscape. Touched by the power of eldritch beings known as the Mistlords, the region of Turoth is a land where beauty hides horror and even shadows threaten to strike down the unprepared. Once the heart of a vast and powerful empire, Turoth fell to ruin due to hubris and magic gone terribly awry.
Ailizane. Known as the Dawnlands for being the region where life and civilization took root once more. Following the events of the Sundering of the World, the remaining people’s and civilizations congregated in this region. Now, kingdoms and empires thrive after having reclaimed their lives in the wake of the Sundering’s horrors.
Ecith. Known as the Whisperlands due to being largely unexplored or having been lost to time or tragedy. To the south of the vast continent of Ransera stands the sub-continent archipelago known as the Isles of Ecith. Largely abandoned by civilized life in the present day, it was once the sole haven from the horrors of the Sundering. Hidden within the tropical appeal of the Isles are stories lost, stories glorious and stories tragic. The few settlements that remain dotted across the Isles are heavily fortified and swathed in old lore and mystery.
